looking good mel well done
another success story
If a dogs sense of smell is so good, why do they need to get so close to the other dogs butt?

A beautiful fish,
Just measured stewy the diamond yesterday. His now 10 inch. Got him end of may at 6 ich. And sterly the albino is now 12 inch got her in may at 10 inch. My pond is currently 850 gallon, back to digging and designing next spring. Hoping to get it to atleast 2000 gallons. Hope it will last a few years as we are hoping to move to a bigger house with a massive garden.
Oh a quick question, does their growth rate sound about right? They are on orchard food.

Why do we want our fish to grow quickly and then worry about overstocking :dunno:

Me too Mel but I like watching them grow over the years rather than you wake up one morning and they have doubled in size   Having said that I have had some for years and I am sure they have not grown at all  While others take off and grow comparatively quickly. There was another thread earlier in the week where bloodlines/pedigree were mentioned. Cuttlebrook had some 20" inch fish at 12 months old which I would not have previously thought possible

there's a way ageing a fish and seeing what years it grew the most exactly the same as tree rings, except for rings on a trunk after death the otolith is removed snapped in half and burnt and placed under a microscope, the technique has the common name of break and burn. Its easy to do with practice becomes second nature knowing where to cut to remove them intact, and fortunately if you go wrong the other ear provides a spare

of course unfortunately the animal has to have died in order to find out how long it had lived and how fast it grew over the years. and though it shows how good a year was for growing its not going to say Steve put on 120mm in the growing season and only 12mm in 2013

Thanks mel, i never had a sturgeon before so i just needed to know if he is growing as he should. When my son purchased stewy the diamond back in may, we did ask alot of questions to shirly aquatic s but were not told the gallon of water or the oxygen we need, its only through this forum i got to know alot and I'm still learning so i do thank you all for your response. We have no intention of parting with stewy and stery and will be extending the pond next spring. We done our calculation and we expect to achieve 4000 gallons with the design we have planned. Wish me luck everyone and thanks again
