Could you tell by the pectoral fins ? Like if they are rounded its a female and if they are more pointy its a male ?

By the name i give them :laugh:

Females are plumper (been polite) than the males and males have rough gill plates i think like stubble. Thats as much as i think i know, also these cant generally be spotted untill they are sexually mature.

How have i done?

As above only thing i have really heard is about the fins

always a difficult thing i think, but i tend to go on body shape and fin shape and colour, female fins tend to be more round and opaque and the males pointier and more colour this gets easier as they mature as the females fill with eggs they get the blimp shape whereas the males are more streamlined.
I also watch them in the spring/summer as the water warms up for signs of spawning.

Put a picture of a calendar koi at one ond of the pond and those that goto it are male and the ones saying how fat she is are female?
