Strange behaviour
Strange behaviour
Got a diamond back approx 2ft maybe 2.5. Had him 2 years now and last 2 months he's been acting weird. He at the top alot and swimming on his back and looks unsteady when swimming. He used to be on the bottom alot but at the top alot now. Yes feeding mostly by hand and is quite tame bit dosnt go down for sinking food so we are trying to hand feed him pellets and prawns. All water tests are fine bit I can't test o2. The pond is 2000 gallon and has a large air.pump with 2 large air stones in along with a venturi on the return. Any ideas please.

Re: Strange behaviour
Swimming belly up at the surface is not common but does happen
It can be a multitude of things from trapped air in its gut to O2 issues
Huso Huso is the best man to hear from and I'm sure he will be along soon
Whilst we are waiting, can you post up the actual water readings and tell us about your pond and what filtration you are using

If a dogs sense of smell is so good, why do they need to get so close to the other dogs butt?

Re: Strange behaviour
been down in hastings so missed this post . I have a Siberian that every year floats belly up for several days then rights itself ,this year was in hot time of year and got quite a red sore belly but now seems to have settled down again .don't know why but assume some swimbladder or bowel disorder causing excess air in gut .I used to try to belch it and massage its belly but that didn't help now I just leave it feed it by hand and it resolves itself in around 14 days .mine are all fed on orchard sturgeon pellet and they swarm on it when its dropped in . have you used any treatments /additives what are the actual readings for ammonia nitrite ph and gh and kh .
