A short video from yesterday showing the fish feeding without my intervention-as usual camera hog Mrs Tench dominates the footage:

Hi Davidmq,
My earlier footage of the babies is the same pond where the rest are. These two (and presumably a few more) will be from last years spawning. Your shubs certainly seem to be more comfortable with you being around the pond while filming now.
MrBushy, it's always lovely to see new small fish in the pond. Like I've said before I very rarely save any fry nowadays so the small ones have only ever known life in my pond. A lot of my smaller fish from a two or three years ago are finally starting to colour up. The usual all reds or all whites are starting to show, with a couple being both red and white. One is developing currently with an almost all white body with what is going to be a red spot on the head very similar to a Tancho Koi, I think that will be a nice fish. There's another interesting fish that is colouring up that I can't decide what it's going to be, I can only describe it as a pinky yellow at the moment ... it swims by the camera between the 19 & 20 minute mark in the video below. All I can say at this moment in time is that it is currently a very unusual colour.
Some of the goldfish are showing a few bumps and scrapes from the spawning shennanigans from a couple of weeks ago. What I am currently completely flumoxed by is I can't see any of the new shubs I put in the pond about 5-6 weeks ago. Three of them seemed to vanish very quickly but I was still seeing one of them on a regular basis. I now haven't seen this last one for a couple of weeks (I'm still seeing my original shub that was put in the pond last year). I am baffled as to what's happened to them. To lose one might be expected, but to lose four ..... !!! I haven't recovered any bodies, water parameters check out okay and doesn't show any signs of rotting bodies somewhere (ammonia). The pond is netted so I'm having a hard time believing that I have "a visiting predator" that is being very selective as to what it takes. And I can't believe that the other fish would have eaten them, but at this moment in time it's the only plausible explanation I have. I really am at a loss as to what's happened to them. I'm hoping they still in there and are just masters of hiding but as more time goes on without seeing them, either with the camera or my own eyes, the more I'm resigned to the fact that I've lost them somehow.
Here's today's showing, all looking very active and grazing off the bottom.

Looking good Shiffy. I do hope your Shubs turn up. My last post until I return in September.

I've had another crack at trying to locate my new shubs with the camera. I left the camera very shallow in the water close to the plants, this seemed to be the preferred spot for the new shub that I had continued to see up until a couple of weeks ago. While I never caught the new shubs, my original shub purchased last year makes several appearances. I think I'm going to have to concede and accept the fact that these new shubs are no longer there. The "unusual colour-in-progress" goldfish also appears and I think it is going to turn red, it's certainly more orange than it was last week. Last year's baby goldfish also make an appearance. I also done some filming from above the water. All fish as active as ever as I tease them by throwing just a few pellets at a time. Watch how "big orange" goes into "boss-mode" when I do eventually throw in a decent amount of pellets. Still very sprightly for a fish that's fast approaching 40 years! The smaller orange Matsuba is a bit more gracious!

Re: Pond fish videos - any post not containing a video will be removed.
My first filming session for several weeks. After several more spawning sessions my goldies are looking quite battered! They'll be fine though, they've always healed in the past but I have to admit that this might be the worst I've seen them! They're all still feeding fine though! I recently purchased a few water lettuce which has turned out to be a waste of time as the koi have virtually destroyed them. So I've taken to throwing in baby jem lettuce as they seem to enjoy their greens so much at the moment.
The first video is simply an above view feeding. With the second video I put the camera into the weeds and rushes hoping that some fry would be visible or last years babies would swim in front of the camera. No joy there in either case, but in the second video my original Bristol Shub makes several appearances ..... this fish looks better every time I see it! Lovely finnage, it holds it tail up well as it does with the dorsal fin. No sign of the other four I put in earlier in the year, I have no idea what happened to them, such a shame! Does anyone know of any Bristol Shub breeders I could contact? I don't want to pay a shed load of money for them!
The small goldfish that was an "pinky yellow" when I last filmed it has now changed completely. It's turned white with a few red specks all over the body. Seen in the second video at the 26:50 mark. Of course, this fish may still change. The goldfish that I thought was going to resemble a Tancho Koi has turned completely white so I'm slightly disappointed in that respect. Other than that, all is well!

Looking good Shiffy! Change in colour as I understand it is not a problem? One of my fish has lost its colour on one side but I think they all look happy and healthy?

I have split the last few posts off to a new thread. The idea behind this thread was for it to just contain videos, it's not for discussion. Please start new threads for discussions.
People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.
