UV filter unit from a Oase Biosmart UVC16000 filter unit

Post by trecker1247 » March 22nd, 2023, 9:21 am

Hi all. This is a bit of a wierd one.
I have had my Koi pond in various forms for the past 20 years.
In my last move 6 years ago i built an above ground 1700 gallon (7729 ltrs) pond/tank.
I am currently using a Oase Biosmart UVC16000 filter unit to keep the pond water clear and up to this winter has been successful.
My problem this year is as follows:
1 - Changing the bulb as i do every year, i could get no visible light from the new bulb.
2 - tried a new bulb
3 decided that it was probably the main unit that had deteriated over the winter so purchased a new base unit.
4 - Wired in the new unit, fitted a new bulb
5 STILL NO LIGHT FROM THE BULB

Has anyone got any sensible suggestions as to why this might be happening as i am no electrician and i need this problem resolved before the water tempeature gets to above 10 degrees
Thanks in advance

What about the power source?
Eg mine is wired to a weatherproof junction box and that is wired to a wall socket in the conservatory and both have 13a fuses.
Can you connect anything else to the same source?

I'm currently using a Blagdon Powersafe 3 switch box.
This is connected to my professionaly installed outdoor socket from the conservatory ring main.
I have changed the wiring in the blagdon box to try a different entry point but still no light.
I have also now tried the UV unit in the garage on a standard 13 amp plug socket still with no joy.

I can't believe that 2 units and 2 new bulbs are all duff.

I am now going to fit a new 10 meter sheilded cable outdoor 13 amp box connected to my existing outdoor box at the conservatory wall and wire both the pump and the UV into this box via 13 amp plugs with appropriate fuses rather than the Blagdon box.

The pump by the way is working perfectly well in all sections of the blagdon unit so the mind still boggles.

If you have tried the UV on another, known working, supply and it fails to work, then you can only deduce that the unit (or bulb) is faulty.
I can believe that you have 2 faulty bulbs - it happens.
I would get another bulb and fit it in the new unit. If that works then try the bulb in the old unit.

Remember that the production of visible light is no indication of the amount of (invisible) UVC produced. Your bulb may be producing no UVC if if producing plenty of visible light.
However, no visible light = no UVC.

I am shortly changing from a pressure filter to the Oase Bioforce 16000 uvc, which is currently sitting in my garage. When I do the swap in the next couple of weeks, how do I know that the uv lamp is working? On the pressure filter, there is a little “window” that glows when the lamp is working but does not glow if the uv bulb has popped etc.

Knowing Oase, I am sure there will be some way of telling, what do the instructions say? (Or you could email them [email protected]) :)

I couldn't find anything in the instructions, so I'll email them. Thank you.

I just looked online and the table in the instruction booklet headed "Malfunctions" suggests there is a UVC Lamp display.
