Re: Pigeon advice please
Wonderful news, Charlie. I was watching a pair of extraordinarily hand-tame wild mallard ducklings in a friend's garden yesterday, and they were so keen to show Mummy how near they were to being able to fly ...
Re: Pigeon advice please
Little update, its doing really well, starting to feed its self and getting used to flying. I hope in a few days to be taking it down to the chicken shed/run and if the hens accept it .. will let it get used to flying with the hens, ready for release back to the wild ... happy days
BTW .. the scull is not real its landed on.

Re: Pigeon advice please
Oh you've done so well, I never thought it would make it
Re: Pigeon advice please
Thank you ... I also thought the same .. But after the most stressful few days ( where l was snapping at everything & everyone) it chose life ... And it was magic. I have been mum to a fair few smaller breeds of birds, but pigeons are my favourites
Re: Pigeon advice please
Up date from my pigeon ... today it was given its freedom .. it had built up its flying and landing skills, finding its own food and was just ready to leave. Its wonderful to see it go .. and heartbreaking .. We have a little bunch of pigeons wandering around the garden on a regular basis, so hope it will meet up with them. I will leave the the cage in the garden for a few weeks at least .. It will have food and water in it ready should it decide to return ....

well done charlie
give yourself a pat on the back
give yourself a pat on the back
If a dogs sense of smell is so good, why do they need to get so close to the other dogs butt?

Re: Pigeon advice please
Thank you John, think I need a hug .
I just hope it can now live the life it was born to live. It has been given a yellow leg ring so I hope to be able to see if it returns to the garden .. It sat on the roof of the cottage for quite a while before flying off into the trees.
Re: Pigeon advice please
Oh that's so grand, well done. It might well come back to see you.
Years ago a magpie took its first flight and landed in a bush in my front garden. It was still only a baby as its parents went on feeding it. I protected it from the cats, I tried various things to help it but it kept ending up in the damn bush. I sat at my window for 12 hours a day on babysit duty. (loads of cats!)
When it could finally fly, one day it came back and perched on the windowsill and looked in at me. I'm sure it was saying it's birdie version of 'thank you'

Well done Charlie
