Common name: Neon Tetra

Synonyms: Hyphessobrycon innesi

Origin: South America; Peru. Generally captive bred in Hong Kong.

Adult size: 4cm

Lifespan: 5-8 years

Sex: The blue line is straighter in males. Females are rounder causing a bent blue line.

Minimum aquarium size: 50cm

Aquarium decor: Plants

Temperature: 20-26°C

Water chemistry: pH 5-7. Hardness 1-10°dGH

Diet: Omnivore; live, small flake, tablet

Swimming level: Middle, bottom

Compatibility: Peaceful schooling fish best kept in groups of six or more.

Comments: Neon tetras prefer subdued lighting and dark gravel. Avoid mixing them with larger fish, such as Angles, that are big enough to eat them.
